Industry certifications, designations, and other terms commonly used to describe various land and animal management practices do not always align with a consumer's understanding of those terms. Furthermore, attaining certifications and keeping up with new certifications as philosophies change and trends emerge is an expensive and time-consuming endeavor. For these reasons, we have chosen to forgo seeking the attainment of specific certifications or designations on our ranch. Instead, we encourage open dialogue with our customers. Please reach out with questions about any of the land or animal practices we employ. In general, we follow the following principles:
We strive to keep our operation as natural as possible. To encourage strong, healthy herds, we follow a limited vaccination regimen selected in conjunction with our local veterinarian.
The welfare of our animals is our top priority. When an animal gets sick, we lead with natural treatments but will provide antibiotics when necessary. We keep diligent treatment records and can verify which of our animals have and have not received antibiotics.
Animals graze freely. They are moved between pastures on a regular basis and pastures are given a 30- to 45-day rest period. This promotes healthy soil and grasses while helping with the elimination of parasitic loads in the cattle.
Our herd is comprised of Angus-Cross and Charolais cows which are pasture-bred to Angus bulls. This produces quality meat in an animal with a good disposition. Our best heifers are retained for breeding to support our vision of operating a closed herd. This provides us with direct knowledge about each animal from birth to processing. It also reduces opportunities for the introduction of outside sickness to the herd.
